About Noida

New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (also called NOIDA) is a planned city and a satellite city of the National Capital Region of India. As per provisional reports of Census of India, the population of Noida in 2011 was 6,42,381. Noida is located in Gautam Buddh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh state in close proximity to NCT of Delhi. Noida is about 25 kilometres (16 mile) southeast of New Delhi, 20 kilometres (12 mile) northwest of the district headquarters - Greater Noida and 457 kilometres (284 mi) northwest of the state capital, Lucknow. It is bound on the west and southwest by the Yamuna River, on the north and northwest by the city of Delhi, on the northeast by the cities of Delhi and Ghaziabad on the north-east, east and south-east by the Hindon River. Noida falls under the catchment area of the Yamuna River, and is located on the old river bed.

The city's infrastructure is looked after by the NOIDA Authority, a statutory authority set-up under Uttar Pradesh Industrial Area Development Act, 1976. Authority's headed by CEO, NOIDA. NOIDA Authority comes under the Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department of Uttar Pradesh Government. NOIDA is accredited as ODF++ city and also accredited as 3 star garbage city ranking by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in year 2019-2020 The sight of overflowing garbage bins is no more an issue with Noida, the ULB adjoining Delhi in western UP. Noida started a ‘bin-free city’ campaign few years ago. This is just one of the few initiatives Noida has taken to replicate successful models of other civic bodies across the nation. The successful door-to-door garbage collection and solid waste management programmes in the ULB is a milestone under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Today, if Noida city has managed to do away with the garbage bins completely, it is because of the effective door-to-door garbage collection system. Previously, both dry and wet wastes were being dumped in the landfill site. But under the dynamic leadership of Ms. Ritu Maheshwari (CEO, Noida authority), the ULB is continuously improving its sanitation status and ensuring the source segregation, collection, transportation and safe disposal process are being performed effectively.

On 10th December 2019, Noida declared itself as a ‘Bin Free City” as it is managing its municipal solid waste in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. AG Enviro Infra Private Limited, the authorised agency of Noida has been working since January 2019 for door to door collection, transportation and safe disposal of the solid waste.

Noida has 168 sectors and 65 villages in its domain where door-to-door waste collection is being done on daily basis.
